Stagecoach Bluebird have introduced a fleet of new single deck buses for the routes in the Stonehaven and Portlethen areas.
The ‘Coastrider’ routes - which include the X6, X7 and X8 - now benefit from brand new single-deck Alexander Dennis Enviro E300 type buses, representing a £1m investment from Stagecoach Bluebird.
The seven vehicles, introduced throughout December, are now operating between Stonehaven, Portlethen, Newtonhill and Aberdeen on route seven, on the Aberdeen to Stonehaven express service X6 and between Portlethen (including Badentoy Park), Cove and Aberdeen on route 8.
The new buses feature an updated version of the previous coastrider livery, following the style of the distinctive X7 coaches which operate the longer distance express route to Dundee along the Mearns coast.
The coastrider vehicles now also offer free wi-fi on board, adding to the already high proportion of the Stagecoach Bluebird fleet which include the wireless technology.
Over 7000 bus users have already made use of the free wi-fi access on the Coastrider X6, 7, 8 and the X7 express routes since their launch.
This recent investment in the Mearns area adds to the £1.4m spent on the luxury coaches for the X7 route in September 2011.
Andrew Jarvis, managing director, Stagecoach Bluebird, said: “Our continued investment, despite a tough economic climate, is helping us with our goal of improving public transport in the north east of Scotland. It’s also allowed us to create more jobs in the bus industry as we’ve recently been recruiting for drivers, particularly in the Mearns area.”
