AS the start of the 1985 salmon fishing season approaches early in the new year, The North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board has issued a timely reminder to anglers to take great care that their rod and line is always well clear of overhead power cables.

"Accidentally touching an overhead cable with any rod can lead to serious injury" said a Hydro Board safety engineer.

AT least one Stonehaven person will have honesty rewarded in a fashion appropriate to the festive season. Six months ago a bottle of whisky was found in Market Square, and handed to the police. It was never claimed, and at Saturday's Police Court it was awarded to the finder. It was one of 26 articles which reverted to the finders.

SEVERAL well known Gourdon people took part in a "Town and County" magazine programme on the radio. It was a highly successful effort and the emphasis was on the theme "Gourdon is a happy village." Mr James Stewart, secretary of the Gourdon Fisherman's Association was interviewed by Miss Simpson who asked why the fishermen did not bait their own hooks instead of getting their wives to do it. Mr Stewart obliged by telling just how this could not be done.

As Coxswain John Soutar, skipper of the Emulate, spoke, seagulls could be heard in the background. When Miss Simpson suggested that fishers made a lot of money he said, "It aye brings in the pay."

When Miss Simpson asked about other aspects of life in Gourdon Mr Soutar said: "It is a happy village."

THE Corporation workmen are busy with the new footpath from St Bridget's Church to the Country Buildings. During the recent wet weather Dunnottar Avenue has been a perfect quagmire, and the crossing will prove a great convenience to those using the Country Buildings and those residing in the east and of the Avenue, but we should say those residing at the other end of the street have as string claims for such a convenience to the mill lade lane.
