EMOTIONAL and practical problems can often arise for mothers having to cope with twins, but a new group being started in Stonehaven hopes to be able to offer moral support and advice on how best to cope with dilemmas when they arise.
A national group called "The Twin Club" encourages its members to break away and establish their own local organisations – and Mrs Alisoun Nicol, whose sons Adam and Scott are nearly two, and who has already interested eight mothers in the town with her suggestion of starting a club. "Little things like getting clothes and the same things for both twins can cause problems," said Alisoun, "and if the group takes off we hope to be able to start a 'swap shop' as others have already done."

A BURST water main at the junction of New Road and Castle Street/Main Street in Johnshaven on Saturday caused some concern over the weekend. With a considerable amount of water flowing down towards the harbour, the dangers of a sudden frost were obvious.
However, nothing untoward happened and the problem was solved on Monday and the potential hazard removed.

APART from the changing face of the town, what is the difference between the Stonehaven of 1950 and that of the present day?
In the opinion of 38 years old Mr Norman Souter, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA, who emigrated with his wife ten years ago and is on a visit to his home town it is the standard of living.
"There is plenty of food now, and there wasn't when we left," he told a Mearns Leader reporter. "The purchase tax is largely off, and the standard of living is up"
He has also seen great change in the housing situation. Since his departure the schemes in the Ramsay Road, King's Road and Christie Crescent areas have taken shape, and the old town is vastly different.

AMONG the minor mishaps reported during the storm this week was the one concerning a tractor and threshing mill which slipped at the junction of Slug Road and Evan Street on Wednesday forenoon. The vehicle finished up broadside across the entrance to Slug Road, completely blocking the roadway. They were soon "rescued" and normal traffic resumed.

IN connection with the local company of Territorials a series of fortnightly dances have been inaugurated, the second of which will take place on Friday first. At the first there was rather a scarcity of the fair sex, but the committee hope for a better turn out on this occasion. The dances being held in their own hall enables the committee to impose a minimum charge, the object being to keep the members together during the winter months.
