STONEHAVEN outdoor swimming pool's "season" is to be curtailed this summer – in a bid to cut losses.
Last year, the pool's July to September opening incurred a deficit of some 37, 550 – despite it being one of he best summers for some time.
This year the proposal is to open in July/August only, the "peak" holiday time. The reckoning is that reduced heating/electricity/staffing overheads could save as much as 10,450.

A LAURENCEKIRK painter who risked his life by entering a smoke-filled flat to rescue two pensioners, is to be recommended for an award to mark his act of bravery.
When fire broke out at a flat in the town's Mearn's Court sheltered housing scheme last month Alan Thomson (34) plunged into the smoke and dragged out 74-year-old William Dickie and his wife Ethel (79). Sadly Mrs Dickie was found to be dead on arrival at Dundee's Ninewells Hospital and her husband dies a week later.
But Mr Thomson's employers want to present him with an award for his courage, a letter of recommendation for an honour will be made to the Royal Humane Society.

STONEHAVEN and District Motor Club, who have been out of the scramble field for some time, have now secured a suitable new course, and by permission of Mr George Lindsay, Nether Wyndings, Stonehaven, a closed-to-club event will be held on Sunday March 6. Other club news is that the new sport of "Go-Karting" will probably be given a trial in the near future, provided the proposed course is found to be suitable.

THE COUNCIL agreed to support a move that summer time should be extended in the autumn until after the last Saturday in October. This was suggested by the Association of County Councils in a circular. Mr William Cameron, St Cyrus, said that in general, this would be helpful during the potato lifting season.

What is familiarly known as the "Cop" are making a new departure in the shape of a social meeting for their customers and friends. The meeting is to be held in the Town Hall next Wednesday and Mr George Bisset, the Chairman of the Company, is to preside. After tea a heavy musical programme will be carried through by Aberdeen artistes. Concerts of a similar nature are held yearly at the various branches at Aberdeen, and are greatly appreciated by members.

SOCIAL meetings have been following each other with great rapidity for some time, and there is yet more to follow. On Friday night the Good Templars are to have an old friend on their platform in the Rev. James Robertson B.D, late of Fetteresso, and now of Anderston Parish Church, Glasgow. With a good musical programme the 39th anniversary should prove a very enjoyable evening.
