Adult literacy course to begin at community centre

Potential volunteer tutors who are interested in delivering literacy support at Stonehaven Community Education Centre are being encouraged to attend a new training programme.

The Community Learning and Development (CLD) team at the Community Education Centre currently provides literacy support for adults in reading, writing, numeracy and IT learners.

The seven-week training programme in adult learning and literacies will start in September for those who are interested.

Volunteers will receive training in weekly three-hour sessions and once the course is completed they will be matched with a literacy learner to provide one-on-one support in these key areas.

No previous experience in literacy volunteering is necessary but volunteers should be flexible with good communication skills and a genuine interest in helping learners.

The sessions will start on Tuesday, September 16 and take place on Tuesdays between 9.15am and 12.45pm at Stonehaven Community Education Centre.

For further information or an informal chat about what literacy volunteering involves please call Joyce Esson at Stonehaven Community Education Centre on 01569 762688.
