Laurencekirk’s busy Gala event kicked off last weekend with the crowning of the Gala princess, Sarah Slessor, in the Dickson Hall.

Sarah ws crowned by retired teacher Jean Johnston at a service held in the hall.

Monday morning kicked off with a performing arts workshop for children followed by the Junior Talent Show in the St Laurence Hall, both organised and run by XBow Ltd. They had all kinds of acts ranging from a poem about a midge to playing the accordion, classical guitar and acting.

At the St Laurence Hall on Monday night, seven acts took part in the Laurencekirk Gala Factor with Xbow again on hand.

The judges, provided by Mearns FM and the Evening Express, had a very tough job deciding a winner and in the end it came down to half a point.

The winner was Alannah Moar, who performed her own music accompanied by her guitar, and r unner up was Eilidh Watt who performed two numbers from the musical Hairspray.

Both girls will now perform at the Gala Day this Saturday July 19.

Alannah will also have the amazing opportunity to record some of her music with Ed from XBow Ltd and then have it played on Mearns FM.

A spokesperson for the Gala Committee said: “We would like to thank all their volunteers so far who are doing a power of work to make the week a success. A special thank you must go to XBow who ran the three events on Monday brilliantly.”
