Anemometer given go-ahead near Netherley
AN application to temporarily erect a 40.5 meter high Anemometer near Netherley was given the go-ahead by Councillors at the Kincardine and Mearns Area committee this week.
The application was for an Anemometer to be erected for 18 months to allow data to be collected in order to determine if the site is suitable for the future development of a wind turbine.
The application for land South West of Hollybank House, Durris received 25 representations. However a number of these were from the same household and so 18 were received in total.
All of the representations were against the proposal. Reasons given for the objections included; visual impact, unacceptably of site for wind energy development, approving an anemometer on the site will prolong the anxiety that wind turbines might be approved on the site and noise.
North Kincardine rural community Council were one of the objectors to the plans.
When being presented with the application on Tuesday members of Kincardine and Mearns area committee were told that the height of the Anemometer is 40.5 meters high, this would be put up next to existing pylons on the site which are 45 meters high. It was also explained to members that most of the issues raised by those objecting to the application were relating to a wind turbine and that the application being discussed was not for a wind turbine.
The committee could not discuss the possibility of a wind turbine until an application is officially lodged.
Councillor Clark said: “I think the crucial thing is it is for a mast as opposed to a turbine. A mast along-side the pylons. The pylons are 45 meters, this is only to be 40.5 meters.” He explained that the height of the existing pylons means that the surrounding area is “already disrupted”.
He continued: “I think it is important to recognise the difference and I have no issue with putting the mast up. The wind turbine is a different thing, but I have no issue with the mast.” The committee unanimously agreed with the recommendation to grant the planning application.
