Children’s panel call

Aberdeenshire’s Children’s Panel is looking for volunteers who can help vulnerable children in the area achieve better outcomes in life.

As always the Panel’s Advisory Committee is particularly keen to hear from male volunteers as historically the number of men taking part is low.

Volunteers from all walks of life who want to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children in Aberdeenshire and are over 18 years old are welcome to apply. Panel members can expect to make important decisions to improve the lives of children who may be in trouble or are in need of care and protection.

Chair of Aberdeenshire Children’s Panel’s Advisory Committee, Brian McCann, said that the main skill required was to be able to listen and be committed to helping young people and training is provided to new members.

George Whyte, who has served for around 14 years, added: “I really would encourage anyone with a genuine interest in helping children to consider applying.

“The excellent training and support we provide gives all our panel members the confidence to make decisions which they believe will improve children’s lives.

“Undoubtedly some cases are challenging, but that is part of being a Panel Member.”

If you have a genuine interest in improving the lives of children and want to be considered as a member of Aberdeenshire’s Children’s Panel, further information and an application pack is available from: Fiona Tweedie or Niall David, Legal and Governance, Aberdeenshire Council, Woodhill House, Aberdeen, AB16 5GB.
