Flood meeting invitation only

A meeting set to be held in Stonehaven to discuss flooding and storm damage in the town is by invitation only.

This is in order to help agencies focus on those directly affected by flooding. Stonehaven’s community council and business association will also be there to represent the whole of the town.

Aberdeenshire Council Chief Executive, Colin Mackenzie (pictured), said: “This meeting will be a chance for people directly affected by recent flooding to hear more about the investigation work that has been carried out to date and about how agencies responded and what work is now being done.

“The views of the whole community will be addressed, through the Flood Action Group, the community council and business association and members of the press are also invited to relay information from the meeting to a wider audience.”

Plans are progressing well for the multi-agency meeting with those signing up to take part including Aberdeenshire Council and Grampian Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS).

Other agencies in attendance will include Scottish Water, Grampian Emergency Planning Unit, The Met office and the Scottish Flood Forum.

Agencies will give presentations on the night relating to the flooding and damage and the chair of Stonehaven’s Flood Action Group will share the concerns of the local community with the agencies involved.

There will then be an opportunity for invited guests to ask questions and share their comments and ideas.

The meeting, being held at Mackie Academy on Tuesday, January 29, is open to householders and businesses directly affected by flooding in the Kincardine and Mearns area. Invitations for the event have been sent out, but some issues remain in identifying everyone affected. Anyone in Kincardine and Mearns whose home or business was flooded during recent severe weather, and who has not received an invitation, can contact the Stonehaven area office on 01569 768200.
