a workshop in progress at Starfish Studio

A popular Johnshaven art emporium, has launched a series of workshops to teach people how to produce a variety of crafts.

Starfish Studio, which was opened by artist Kate MacKenzie in 2009, sells only affordable, British handmade goods with the emphasis on local products.

Kate said: “Our studio workshop space has been a welcome addition to Starfish. We are delighted to have harnessed such expert tuition to lead the classes which include bead embroidery, knitting, felting and decoupage.

“A few workshops have already taken place and participants had a lot of fun as well as being able to take home the piece that they had made and customers have enjoyed seeing the works in progress.”

The next 2014 workshop will focus on bead weaving; ‘Making a flat, spiral bracelet’ will take place tomorrow (Friday) from 10.30am - 1-30pm.

The class will be led by well known Deeside bead artist, Carol Paris of Torphins. Carol’s bead weaving has been featured in Making Jewellery, Bead and Beads and Beyond magazines. This is followed by a ‘Learn to knit’ workshop on February 28 with passionate knitter, Janice Anderson.

All classes, from crochet to straw work and jewellery making, take place at Starfish Studio in Johnshaven and range from two-hour sessions to all day workshops.

Workshops are being added regularly.

Interested parties, whether as tutors or participants, should check www.starfishstudio.co.uk for further details.
