From an uncertain future just six months ago, Laurencekirk Gala have now announced a packed programme for the 2014 event.
The Kincardineshire Observer first reported at the start of December 2013 how the future of the popular gala was in doubt as more volunteers were needed.
Now, with a dedicated committee who have been working tirelessly behind the scenes, a full programme of events has been announced for the week starting Sunday, July 13.
Secretary for the Gala, Kirstie Moar, told the Observer: “It’s been an exciting six months for the new committee pulling together the event.
‘‘We started out thinking we’d have to make a very basic programme, but thanks to the support of so many community groups we now have 25 different items in our event plan plus all the events of the gala day itself.
“We are delighted that the 2014 Laurencekirk Gala will truly be a community event as a result of this support.
“There are a number of “firsts” for the gala, including the music talent competition for 14 - 25 year olds and the Howe O The Mearns Pipe Band leading our parade, to the old favourites such as the bingo and pet show which makes for an exciting week.”
Another event which will be taking place is the beautiful garden competition, with free entry and a closing date of the end of June.
Gala day on Saturday, July 19, promises to be very busy with a full list of events including a parade, a BMX bike demonstration, a doughnut eating competition and children’s fun races.
