A total of £92,000 has been allocated towards harbour improvements at Stonehaven, and also Gourdon and Johnshaven.

Members of the Kincardine and Mearns area committee on Tuesday unanimously approved plans for a range of works which will take place within the current financial year.

A report before councillors explained that, as in previous years, the work agreed upon would be flexible.

It added: “This will permit re-assessment of priorities for emergency work such as storm damage, which may require immediate action to maintain the structural integrity of the harbour.”

In line for the lion’s share is Stonehaven, which will receive £51,250 for dredging, replacement davits, maintenance of lighting, signs and safety poles, and powerwashing steps, among other work.

A further £12,250 will also be spent on boom refurbishment.

Gourdon harbour will receive £27,250, and work will include masonry repairs, gate maintenance, vermin control and dredging.

Johnshaven harbour has been allocated £13,500 to cover masonry repairs, pointing and concrete works and vermin control, as well as general maintenance.
