Mearns building firm wins award

Laurencekirk-based building firm Peterkin Homes Ltd has scooped a prestigious Master Builder of the Year Award, taking the New Homes in Scotland prize. This is the fourth time that Peterkin Homes have won the regional award in the past 10 years, described by industry experts as an incredible achievement.

The Master Builder of the Year Awards, a nationwide search by the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) to find the best builders in the UK, is unique. Nominations must come from a satisfied client, and builders are judged on their technical ability together with their customer service skills.

Peterkin Homes Ltd is the winner for their work building a customers dream home, a house which combined the style of art deco with the very best in modern construction. The owner is Tony Allen and the house is in Fordoun, Aberdeenshire.

Peterkin Homes Ltd was chosen by the region’s judges to win the New Homes prize and will now go through to compete in the national finals. The national winners of the eleventh Master Builder of the Year Awards will be announced by architect and TV presenter George Clarke, who will present the coveted accolades at a ceremony at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London on 20 March 2013.

Grahame Barn, FMB Services Director for Scotland, said: “The Master Builder of the Year Awards give clients the opportunity to celebrate a job well done and to thank their builder. The standard of entries this year is amongst the highest we have seen and reflects the expertise, attention to detail and professionalism of the region’s builders. What really stands out is the extent to which our regional winners were prepared to go beyond the call of duty to build a good working relationship with their clients to achieve the best possible result for them.

“Peterkin Homes Ltd should feel justly proud of their achievement in winning the New Homes in Scotland prize, and we wish them success in the national competition.”

If Peterkin Homes Ltd wins the overall Master Builder of the Year title, they will drive away in the brand new Nissan Light Commercial Vehicle of their choice worth up to £20,000, while the client who nominated them wins a fantastic £3,000 cash prize.

The eleventh Master Builder of the Year and Apprentice of the Year Awards is organised by the FMB in association with Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd. The New Homes category is sponsored by NHBC.
