RESIDENTS' CONCERNS GET BACKING

PORTLETHEN Community Council have agreed to submit a letter backing the concerns made by residents about a proposed recycling plant at the Mains of Findon quarry.

Residents in the Hill of Findon area have been plagued for five years by lorries carrying rubble to and from the quarry, which is run by the Les Taylor Group, something they feel will get worse if the recycling plant gets permission to be built.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said that the situation was becoming increasingly worse.

They said: "The amount of lorries driving on the road at the moment is horrendous, to put in a recycling plant would be absolutely terrible. They drive at speeds and do not use passing places. I cannot open my window in the summertime, and if I wash my car it is covered in dust again within hours.

"I don't know why they don't use the other road from Cove as there would only be two houses affected compared to the 14 on our road. Sometimes we see 10 or 15 lorries an hour pass our front window and the road is all churned up.

"The noise goes on from 6.30am well into the evening. We used to get peace at weekends, but now they work on Saturdays, even Sundays."

They have also been questioning why they need another recycling plant as they say there are two others within a mile of the area.

"It is bad enough living here now without having a recycling plant built," the resident added.

Portlethen Community Council have agreed to lodge an objection regarding the roads not being able to cope with an increase of unsuitable traffic. They also have environmental concerns regarding noise pollution and dust.

The application is likely to be considered by councillors due to the objections. The closing date for receiving complaints was yesterday (Thursday).

Les Taylor Group were unavailable for comment.
