Mackie Academy came second at the Aberdeen Heat of Rock Challenge, continuing their success at the event last weekend.
The team will progress through to the Scottish finals which will happen later in the year and were second only to Fraserburgh Academy at the AECC last Saturday, March 8.
Speaking to the Mearns Leader, rector Louise Moir said: “On Saturday night we were proud to continue the Mackie tradition of success at the Aberdeen Heat of Rock Challenge held at the AECC with our theme this year being ‘One Single Life’ incorporating Super Mario and the issue of drugs and peer pressure.
“Team Mackie scooped up nine awards in total including excellence for: soundtrack, choreography, set design & function and concept, as well as clinching second place overall.
‘‘This guarantees Mackie Academy a place in the Scottish Finals held in Dundee in June, for the third year in a row.
“The Mackie Rock Challenge committee on behalf of all our cast and crew would like to say a massive thank you to all those that made this performance possible.
‘‘We would like to thank all the local businesses that donated prizes for our raffle, as well the Parent Teacher Association for funding our buses.
“The cast and crew would also like to thank all the staff who came to help during the day, especially Miss A. Barnett who through her help and support this year made our performance possible.”
Mackie Academy were crowned the Scottish Rock Challenge winners at the finals night in Dundee last year.
