“How to research people on war memorials” will be subject of a talk at Stonehaven Heritage Society’s meeting next Wednesday, February 26, at St Bridget’s Hall.

The meeting will take place at 7.30pm and guest speaker will be Mrs Diane May.

A spokesperson from the Heritage society said: “Have you ever wondered about the people behind the names on war memorials?

“Perhaps you have a family connection and would like to learn more?

“If so there are some wonderful resources available locally and / or online that can help you to learn more and to commemorate those who gave their lives in war time and the next meeting of the Society should be of great interest.

‘‘Mrs May’s talk will provide an introduction to the most common and popular sources and some tips on how to get the most from research.

She has in-depth experience in this area following on from her research project, which looked specifically at the Stonehaven war memorial as part of her postgraduate genealogical studies at Strathclyde University.

‘‘ We look forward to the talk, which is particularly relevant as we approach the centenary of the start of the First World War.
