Two officers, who both served the Stonehaven Sea Cadets, have been rewarded for their hard work.
The Grampian Sea Cadets District Officer, Lieutenant Commander (SCC) Brian Mair RNR, received a surprise at the recent Northern Area Sea Cadets Conference held at HMS Scotia, Rosyth.
Captain Mark Windsor RN, captain of The Sea Cadets presented Lt-Cdr Mair with the third clasp to the Cadet Forces Medal marking over 30 years adult service.
Lt-Cdr Mair started as a cadet in the Stonehaven Unit in 1974, progressing onto the staff in 1980 where he served as unit first lieutenent from 1985 to 1998 before being appointed district officer in 2002 - a role he continues to fulfil.
Grampian Sea Cadets Assistant District Officer, Lieutenant (SCC) Kevin Morris RNR, has recently been appointed the area recreation officer for Northern Area Sea Cadets.
Lt Morris’s new role will involve the organising and running of all competitions and regattas for Sea Cadet units from Scotland and North England and preparing them for the national competitions.
Prior to taking up this role Lt Morris was the commanding officer of the Stonehaven Unit for 10 years prior to retiring in 2012.
Kevin said: “I was delighted to be offered this role which I guess is a natural progression for a person from such a competitive and successful unit and district.
‘‘I have travelled the length and breadth of this country coaching and supporting cadets over the past 20 years so I know all the ins and outs.
‘‘With the support of the area staff I am looking forward to fulfilling this exciting and challenging role.”
