TOUCH OF TARTAN FOR STONEHAVEN SCHOOL

MILL O' Forest Primary School officially launched their school tartan on Burns Day.

The tartan was designed by the pupils and made especially for them by Alex Scott Kiltmakers. The pupils began designing the tartan last January as part of the Year of the Homecoming celebrations. They have been working hard to raise funds to register the tartan and managed to raise almost 2,000 by putting on a Burns concert, having a poetry competition and selling shortbread.

The pupils chose the green colour to match their uniform and the other colours to represent different committees within the school, including the Eco Committee and the Health committee. This means that all the different parts of the school are tied together in the tartan.

Alex Scott made three designs for the school and the pupils voted on their favourite. The tartan is available as a scarf at the moment, with almost 200 having been produced in adult and child sizes. The school hopes to create a bigger line of products featuring the tartan in years to come.

Teacher Mrs Fraser said: "We have just decided on scarves to begin with but we hope to be able to integrate it into the uniform. Some of the girls are even asking for kilts! It is a great idea for ex pupils who don't have a tartan as it means they can have it for themselves."

MILL O' Forest pupils Emma Mair, Ruby Davidson, David McGillivray and Keiran Haley show off their school's new tartan.
