The Commonwealth Games may be over, but one local woman has described taking part in the closing ceremony as “an amazing experience.”

Tracey Smith, from Drumlithie, was one of 2000 volounteer cast members selected for the ceremony in Glasgow.

Rehearsals were held over several weeks and amounted to around 90 hours.

Everything was kept top secret from family and friends including the celebratory line-up which included Lulu, Deacon Blue and Kylie.

Tracey said this week: “It was an amazing experience, right from the first rehearsal trree months ago.

‘‘It was a blast and I’m really sad it’s all over - I’ve met some great people who also volunteered to be cast members.

“Rehearsing in the torrential rain wasn’t so good but it was all worth it when the big night arrived.

‘‘ We were performing with all the athletes on the pitch, including some of the medal winners from Team Scotland. Great memories to last a lifetime - I would do it again in a heartbeat.”

Tracey’s husband, Alasdair, who watched her, said: “I was obviously very proud to see her performing at Hampden Park in front of a packed stadium and pleased to see the whole evening go so well after everyone’s hard work and preparation.

“I thought the ceremony was first class and brought together everything that is good about Scotland and the Commonwealth. It was one huge party and summed up the success of the whole Games.
