Vandals have struck at the new Mearns Academy campus, with windows and plasterboard damaged in the process.

The campus in Laurencekirk is due to be finished for August, when pupils will move into the new building.

Police Scotland have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

A spokesperson said: “We have received reports of vandalism at Mearns Academy, and would appeal for members of the community to come forwardwith any information.”

Mearns Community Council heard last week that the building had been targeted between February 14 and 17 and 19 and 20. Plasterboard and windows were damaged and fire extinguishers set off.

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson this week told the Kincardineshire Observer and Mearns Leader of their dismay at the new campus being damaged.

The spokesperson added: “The council is extremely disappointed that the new Mearns Academy building has been vandalised.

“We would urge anyone who has information about this to contact the police.”
