Watt welcomes green homes news

SNP MSP Maureen Watt has welcomed new figures which show homes in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are amongst the most energy conscious in Scotland.

A new poll by the Energy Saving Trust reveals that almost a third of adults have either installed or are considering installing renewable energy systems in their homes.

Commenting Ms Watt said: “I am delighted that increasing numbers of households across Aberdeen City and Shire are engaging with renewable energy initiatives for their homes.

“Over the last year, I have noticed that more and more properties have installed green energy systems, such as solar panels and wind turbines.

“Green energy systems are a fantastic way to not only cut carbon dioxide emissions, but also to drive down energy bills; which is shown to be a key motivator in those considering renewable technologies.

“In fact, it’s estimated that households could be up to £610 better off per year if they go green.”

Ms Watt added: “People only have until March to take advantage of the interest free loans which the Scottish Government is offering towards the cost of the installation of renewable systems.”

“I would encourage anyone who is considering making their homes more energy efficient to contact the Energy Saving Trust as soon as possible.”
