WIND FAILS TO BLOW GALA DAY OFF COURSE
DESPITE a strong wind which threatened to spoil things, Saturday's Bervie Gala Day, which brought to a close a fun-packed week of gala activities, proved to be a great success.
With piper Euan Lownie leading the way, Gala King and Queen Kieran Freeman and Abbie Sclater and Prince and Princess Murray Hossick and Brooke Chasser processed down Kirkburn to the grass area by the leisure centre and declared the Gala Day open.
The Inverbervie Citizen of the Year award for 2010 was presented to a very well known Bervie figure Alick Smith. Mr Smith has been recognised for his work with a variety of local groups and organisations, but in particular for his efforts in transforming the caravan site.
After receiving his award he modestly said that everything he did was "for the community."
Entertainment during the afternoon came from the Gourdon School Dancers, the Gordon School of Dancing and a magician.
There were a large number of stalls as well as a bouncy castle, sumo wrestling, a bungee run and a barbecue.
Gala Week began the previous Friday with a disco in the Burgh Hall at which the King, Queen, Prince and Princess were chosen.
On the Sunday there was a duck race and barbecue, then the Monday featured a Scavenger Hunt and a Pub Quiz in the Crown Hotel.
On the Tuesday evening there was darts, dominoes and pool in the Salutation Hotel and bingo in the Burgh Hall.
Wednesday featured a Heritage Trail walk, then on Thursday and Friday there was 5-a-side football at The Haughs.
