YELLOW'S ON THE BROOM A HUGE SUCCESS

THE eleventh annual Yellow's on the Broom festival has been hailed a resounding success by organisers.

Over 600 people descended on Sillyflatt Farm, Inverbervie at the weekend to take in acts such as former Runrig singer Donnie Munro.

The singer was joined on the bill by trad-rock band Skerryvore who have played at venues across the world from Chicago to Beijing, as well as festivals including MagiaCeltica in Italy, Celtic Connections in Scotland, Celtic Crackers in the Netherlands and last year's T in the Park.

Also on the line-up were Argentinean tango band Manosanta, alt-rock band My Albatross and the Moonzie Allstars' fiery Afro-Celt fusion.

The event, which is held in a spacious barn with an indoor bar and festival food, also had various fringe events such as fun music, dance, arts and crafts workshops at the nearby Mill of Benholm in the afternoons.

One of the Festival's organisers Anne Mayer said: "It went very well, I've already had about 60 emails from people saying thank you and how wonderful it was. It was so lovely. All together I think we had about 600 people there - it was a very happy, family event, the children liked the music and the face-painting went well. The Harry Houdini act, the magician was great and the aerial act was stunning, just stunning.

"Everybody smiled and danced and said thank you when they left. This year we had a fantastic security team who made sure that no under-18s came in without an adult which made a big difference. Only the people who wanted to listen were there."

She added: "In comparison to previous festivals, I think we got our ideal audience again - everybody was so happy and had so much fun because in the past two years it got a bit difficult with all the young ones coming in. Some of them weren't interested in the performances and just wanted to eat and drink.

"Some of them have tried to smuggle in their own drink before, but this year, with the fantastic security, it meant we only had the people in who wanted to listen. The stalls were fantastic and I think it was the most harmonious festival we have had. It still seems to be the best kept secret in the North-east - we had people up from Manchester and London asking why there weren't more people here!"
