This month a local man and his son’s will be raising funds for ‘Beating Bowel Cancer’ by participating in the ‘Decembeard’ challenge.
The charity inviting men to grow a beard for the month of December to raise awareness of bowel cancer.
Mr Peter Newell said the reason he is supporting this campaign is because his wife Susan, died from bowel cancer over 4 and a half years ago.
“It is a terrible disease and everyone should be aware of the statistics and early detection is vital.” He said.
His son Ben, now living in London has actively supported Beating Bowel Cancer for some time including taking part in the “Ride London” cycling event and is one of the ambassadors for Decembeard.
His youngest son Tom also ran this years “Great North Run” in September for Beating Bowel cancer.
Over the next month, he and his sons will post progress of their beards on their Facebook page ‘The Newell Boys Decembeard’ and hope people will let them know if you are growing a beard with some pictures.
