After beating hundreds of contestants in a national talent search, Catriona Strachan, 24, from Stonehaven was this week named as the new presenter of M&S TV.
As the channel’s new presenter, Catriona will help tell the stories behind one of Britain’s most iconic retailers to over 2.4 million viewers. Catriona’s first job will be an exclusive interview with celebrity stylist Kate Halfpenny.
Catriona grew up in Stonehaven and later moved to Leith, Edinburgh, to pursue a broadcasting career.
In recent years she has assisted with the fashion segment on Scottish TV show, The Hour, and presented local radio travel bulletins as she worked her way up the career ladder. Now she has finally gotten her big break thanks to M&S and says she is “over the moon”.
Catriona was named as the next M&S TV presenter after impressing the expert judging panel consisting of stylist to the stars Kate Halfpenny; Editor of The Sun’s TV buzz magazine, Steven Corbett; Head of Lingerie Design and Product Direction at M&S, Soozie Jenkinson; and Chris Gorell-Barnes from the multichannel video agency Adjust Your Set. They all remarked that they were impressed by how well Catriona handled interviews and felt she had a fantastic personality which truly encapsulated the M&S brand – and so voted unanimously for her to win. She has now been awarded an M&S TV filming contract worth £5,000 and a coveted pair of X-Factor final tickets.
Catriona said: “Winning today is a life-changing experience and a dream come true. To be a TV presenter is something that I have always wanted but never felt I had the confidence to do it. Winning the competition has really proved to me that I can achieve my ambitions. I’m very excited about presenting for M&S TV and my family is really proud of me.”
Catriona was chosen from hundreds of applicants in a nationwide, three-stage competition. In October, M&S TV asked customers to upload a one-minute video clip, which revealed what they love most about M&S. The best 12 entries were shortlisted and invited to London to face a series of filming challenges, which were then put to the public vote. M&S TV fans voted for their favourite three, who then had to face the judging panel where Catriona was chosen to take the top prize.
Soozie Jenkinson, Head of Lingerie Design and Product Direction at M&S, said: “The standard of entries we received was extremely high so Catriona can be incredibly proud to have beaten the competition to become the next M&S TV presenter. We’re thrilled to be giving Catriona her big break and are looking forward to seeing her first interview on M&S TV.”
