Plans to build 400 homes, aswell as a supermarket, petrol station and community facilities in Stonehaven have been withdrawn.

Developer Stewart Milne Homes had hoped to develop the 84 acre Mains of Cowie site, across from Stonehaven Leisure Centre.

However, last month the Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee rejected the plans after many residents of the town raised concerns on the impact the new housing would have on infrastructure such as schools and roads.

A spokeswoman for Stewart Milne Homes confirmed that the planning application for Mains of Cowie has been withdrawn. She said: “Following the outcome of the Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee meeting and in view of some responses to the consultation process still out-standing, we are withdrawing this application for the time being.”
