COMMUNITY radio station Mearns FM are inviting listeners to tune in for local election debates in the run up to this year’s Holyrood election.
The station hosted a series of election debates and individual programmes in the run up to the Westminister election last year and hopes to replicate it in the coming weeks for the Scottish election.
The first debate featured on a special edition of Beat the Drum on Sunday, February 13, with candidates inclduing Nigel Don (SNP) and Alex Johnstone (Conservative) taking part.
Ken Venters, presenter of Beat the Drum said: “The live debates are an excellent way for Mearns FM listeners to engage directly with the candidates.
“Listeners can write to Mearns FM and have questions or issues put to the candidates. They can text in during the programme on 0787 1052107 or take part live on air by calling the studio. Full details of how to take part in the debate will be given during the broadcast.”
Listeners can email email@example.com or direct to Ken Venters on firstname.lastname@example.org. There will be two further Sunday debates on April 10 and May 1.
“I am anticipating a good response and hope Mearns FM listeners will write in and take the opportunity to find out the policies of all the candidates,” Mr Venters added.
Individual candidate shows will run thoughout the next four weeks. Beat the Drum airs every Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm.
