Laurencekirk Primary School remained closed as the
Observer went to press this week after a fire broke out in the kitchens on Monday.
Firefighters were called to the School at about 4.10pm after the blaze broke out, and crews from Inverbervie, Altens and Stonehaven worked for more than an hour to extinguish the fire.
A spokesperson for Aberdeenshire Council said: “While the fire was contained in a small area it has become clear that there is smoke damage throughout the building. Extensive efforts have been made to identify suitable alternative accommodation but unfortunately this has not been possible and therefore the school will have to close for the rest of the week. All efforts will be undertaken to ensure the school is able to open as normal after the holiday period. We would like to apologise for the inconvenience this will cause for parents but the health and safety of pupils has to be our top priority.”
