Children’s play areas in Portlethen have been targetted by vandals recently, including the community woodland park and Nicol Park.

They are among the areas where broken glass and graffiti have appeared among children’s play areas, football pitches and picnic benches.

Newtonhill hasn’t escaped the damage either, with flower beds being destroyed over the weekend.

North Kincardine Councillor Alison Evison said: “It is really disappointing to see the work of community groups to improve the local environment destroyed so disrespectfully.”

“The NEAT group from Newtonhill has been really effective in making the village bloom and, in Portlethen, a group of youngsters made their plans for a BMX park in Nicol Park reality through their own dedicated work.

‘‘To see flowers being destroyed and broken glass thrown around play areas is a real knock back to these dedicated volunteers.”

“I hope that those responsible for the damage see the pointlessness of their actions and can be encouraged to contribute more positively to their local communities.”
