Maureen Watt, MSP for Aberdeen South and North Kincardine, has highlighted the continuing success of the McIntosh Donald plant in Portlethen, which recently became part of the 2 Sisters Food Group, and is now supplying Tesco with top-of-the-range meat products for retail in their leading stores.
Ms Watt responded to a parliamentary question concerning employment at the 2 Sisters plant in Cambuslang, and highlighted the successful example of the one in Portlethen, which plays an important role in the local economy.
Ms Watt said: “Tesco’s [agreement] to market premium, high-value beef products in its leading stores, acknowledges the increasing demand for Scotland’s top-quality beef, which is good news for retailers, processors and producers alike.”
“I am reassured that the Scottish Government will continue to promote the strength and quality of Scottish produce in its constructive discussions with the 2 Sisters Food Group.
‘‘McIntosh Donald’s latest deal with Tesco is evidence of this.”
