Stonehaven and District Gardening Club are on the lookout for local gardeners to get involved in the club and it’s activities.
The club are looking for green fingered locals who could work with them to promote and encourage gardening across the Stonehaven area.
Stonehaven and District Gardening Club are desperate for more members to come forward to secure it’s long term future.
John Shinnie Chairman of S&DGC said: “Whilst the last two to three years have been very encouraging in terms of the number of those participating in the various events such as the “Children’s Grow the Tallest Sunflower”, Summer Gardens event and the Annual Flower Show, the Club is desperate to attract more members to ensure this local community group has a long term future.
“The club also needs volunteers to take up roles on the Committee and help with the organizing and running of events. Like many other local community groups, we are finding it difficult to encourage new members although there appears to be great community support for our various events with some 350 people visiting the Summer Show and 130 children taking part in the Sunflower Competition.”
The club’s difficulties are no different to that of many other local groups, with Stonehaven Roundtable also putting out a pleas for new members recently.
John added: “We are however, fortunate to have the support and sponsorship of the Mearns Leader, Kirktown Garden Centre, Mearns FM, Stonehaven Joinery Services, Charles McHardy, Carpet Design, Moir Motors, GPH Builders Services, David Waldies, Howdens Ltd, Brickfield Motors, Leslies, B&A Hydraulics and Arynot IT, which enables the club to run its extensive annual programme of events.”
You can help in supporting the local group by joining them at their Annual Statutory Meeting at the Invercarron Resource Centre on Thursday October 15 at 7.30 pm. After the meeting you can join the club for a glass of wine & nibbles.
