New and improved road signage in Fettercairn could deal with long standing complaints from residents.

Currently heavy goods vehicles from the A90 and Luthermuir try to access the Cairn O’ Mount via Burnside Road and the Royal Arch – and end up having to retrace their steps.

Aberdeenshire Council have agreed to bring in new warning signs to divert heavy goods vehicles to the right at Johnston View to the Laurencekirk-Fettercairn road, and then into the village, avoiding Burnside Road and the Royal Arch. Drivers are to be advised that the Royal Arch is open to cars and light goods vehicles only.

Aberdeenshire Provost and Mearns councillor, Bill Howatson said : “I have been approached regularly about traffic concerns from residents in Burnside Road who have pointed out that HGVs are getting stuck at the Arch en route to Cairn O’ Mount and who have requested clearer signage on the approach to the village.

“I understand the concerns being raised and have taken this up with the council’s transportation service. Officers have agreed that new signage could make a difference to the current situation and it is expected that the signs will be erected within the next month.”
