BRAVE Nippy dipper’s have raised more than £20,000 for charity CLIC Sargent.

The New Year’s Day Nippy dip this year saw 85 Dippers take to the sea at Stonehaven harbour and so far they have raised a total of £21,178.This has beaten last year’s amount of £19,000.

Organisers of the day would like to thank everyone who helped to make the event such a success.

In particular they would like to thank the Stonehaven lions club for all their help, Andy McArdle from Stonehaven Lions who was master of ceremonies on the day, Dunnottar wines for supplying the whisky which helped warm the dippers, Janes Design for opening on the day and letting the dippers use the premises and Andy Bennett who took part in the warm up routine with lead dipper, Michael Hopkins. They would also like to thank the spectators who turned out to support the Dippers on the day. It is estimated there were over a thousand people there.

Michael Hopkins, who was the first one to brave the icy waters on January 1 has explained that the spectators and number of Dippers this year made a fantastic atmosphere. He also says plans are already being made for next year’s Nippy Dip. He said: “It is going to be bigger and even better for the fifth year.”

The New Year’s Day Dip will take place at around the same time, 2:30pm, next year. Look out for details on registering nearer the time.
