Johnner travelled up to their closest away fixture of the season but it was a long trip back after putting in a lot of effort for little reward.
With a massive wind gale against them in the first half the game plan was to try to contain the away team. Keeper Spink was once again in top form as he produced a couple of superb saves to thwart Newtonhill.
Johnshaven, boosted by new signing Liam Bailey into the line-up, produced their best moment of the half when Beedie played in a terrific cross to his strike partner, but the debutant’s effort was straight at the keeper.
Former Johnshaven player R. Tringham gave Newtonhill the lead with a composed finish on the break. And it was a double blow just on the stroke of half time when a whipped in free kick evaded everyone and found the back of the net.
Half -time score 2-0
Johnshaven made a couple of early changes with the youthful Couineaux-Rice and C. Spink replacing Calder and Leven.
The changes brought an instant impact as Couineaux-Rice won the ball and played it off to Nayland MacLaren whose shot was parried into the goal by the keeper.
Johnshaven threw everything at Newtonhill but just couldn’t find an equaliser, Beedie’s chest and volley coming closest forcing the Newtonhill keeper to pull off a spectacular save.
Final Score 2-1
