Residents in Stonehaven attended a meeting last week to gain clarity over the increase in charges for use of the town hall as of next year.

Members of Stonehaven Town Hall User Group met with Aberdeenshire Council’s facilities manager (Business Services) Tom Buchan .

Aberdeenshire Council sent the following statement from Head of Property and Facilities Management, Allan Whyte (who was not at the meeting): “The meeting with representatives of the main user groups was well attended and concerns that Stonehaven Town Hall is to be increasingly commercialised were allayed.”

However, local businesswoman Chris Stirk, who organised the meeting, said: “Despite the council having a list of our major concerns in advance, their representative did not come prepared with the information requested.

“At the end of the meeting we were no clearer as to what was going to happen regarding the charging policies.

“I can quite honestly say the pricing policy the council is trying to impose will not encourage hall users and I know for a fact several have already abandoned plans to use the hall in the future.

“It is not acceptable.”
