Local chef Raj, owner of the Nu Spice takeaway in Stonehaven, has finished as a runner up in the Asian Food Awards 2014.

The takeaway has done well in previous years in the Aberdeenshire Curry awards but has now been recognised nationally for their work.

As well as Raj being a finalist in the Asian Food Awards, Nu Spice was named Takeaway of the Year in the North East Region.

Speaking about what it was like competing with top chefs from all across Scotland, Raj said: “There was definitely a lot of heat in the competition.

‘‘ I had never competed on a national platform like this before and there was a lot of work put in and to be one of the finalists was a wonderful thing.”

“Nu Spice won in the Aberdeenshire Curry awards last year so to get the award was simply amazing.

‘‘For here it has been achievement, achievement, achievement.

‘‘We have been serving the community for years and sometimes we are busy and there are delays but we try our best for the customers who have supported us since day one.”

Raj also got great news that his Ballater takeaway India on the Green was named Newcomer of the Year in the North East Region of the Asian Food Awards.
