When Stonehaven Heated Open Air Pool opens at 11am on Saturday for the new season, swimmers will discover some great new facilities.
Top of the Friends of the Pool priority list were new thermal pool covers which not only retain the heat better overnight, but also keep out any wind-blown debris when the Pool is closed. However, it is likely that swimmers will be more impressed by the brand-new, family-friendly lockers in both the male and female changing rooms.
“We like to listen to what our customers tell us,” said Chair of the Friends Mike Robins. “Each year we undertake a survey and our swimmers were telling us our lockers were just not good enough. The newly-installed lockers are a huge improvement and are much bigger than before, allowing mums and dads to have one locker and key for themselves and their kids. Business people can also enjoy a swim before or after work knowing their clothes will stay smart.”
The Pool will be officially opened on Saturday by paralympian and multi-medal winner Murray Dingwall, aided and abetted by Mike Robins.
Newtonhill Pipe Band and Splasher, the Pool’s cuddly dolphin mascot, will be outside the Pool from 10.45. There will be an aqua disco following the opening ceremony until 4pm and the lifeguards will also be leading fun and games for the kids during the afternoon.
