FOR the third year in a row, Councillors’ pay will be frozen.
The pay freeze was announced by the Scottish government last week. Previously a special committee had found that Councillors basic salary should be increased by 16.5%. The Scottish Local Authorities Remuneration Committee (SLARC) had recommended that the basic Councillors’ wage go up from its current level of £16,234 to £18,916. It also suggested that the leaders of Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Highland Councils should receive £50,422 a year, with leaders of smaller councils getting £44,137. However these recommendations were rejected and pay as been frozen.
