Laurencekirk Gala Committee have announced that that the much-anticipated 2014 event will indeed be going ahead in July.
The much-loved Gala could not proceed last year owing to a lack of volunteers on the committee.
However, after a positive meeting was held on Sunday evening, a new committee has been formed with a number of new faces.
The Kincardineshire Observer first reported at the start of December how the future of the popular event was in doubt as more volunteers were needed.
A good number of existing committee members are also staying on to give the benefit of their experience.
The committee is being headed by the new chair, Jacquie Donoghue, along with vice-chair, Claire Hunter.
A spokesperson for the committee said: “Planning for the event is now underway with some changes being made to the format.
“The biggest change will be that many of the most popular events will now be hosted in the local halls rather than a marquee to help reduce costs and the obligation on the committee.
“However, with lots of events - including the ever popular bingo, car treasure hunt, kids’ club, and comedy night penned in to happen during the week - culminating on the Saturday with the Tower Race and the main gala day and dance - we are confident that there will be something for everyone and that it will be a memorable occasion for all involved.
“All the named posts have now been filled, but if anyone would like to get involved we are always open to new members.”
The committee are appealing to charity groups or businesses who would like a stall on gala day, or anyone wishing to raise funds for their local group by organising an event during gala week, to get in touch with the secretary, Kirstie, at firstname.lastname@example.org or Jacquie at email@example.com.
Laurencekirk Gala will run during the week beginning July 14, culminating on Saturday, July 19 .
