Maureen’s Matters - Nothing quite beats being there

The pool looks so inviting on a beautiful day. Workers put the finishing touches to the pain by the poolside.

With both the World Cup and Wimbledon well under way a summer of exciting sporting action has already begun.

While I am sure that many will be cheering on their favourite team out in Brazil and that millions more, myself included, will be hoping that Andy Murray can replicate his remarkable feat of 12 months ago, I simply can’t wait for the Commonwealth Games to get started.

Not only are these being held here in Scotland but my daughter was successful in her bid for tickets meaning that we’ll both be heading along to watch the Rhythmic Gymnastics.

Nothing quite beats being at an event and seeing all the excitement unfold before you, and I’m sure that the atmosphere of a home Games will only add to this.

However, before the Games can begin, we first have the spectacle of the Queen’s Baton Relay.

With some 4000 baton-bearers taking part this is Scotland’s biggest ever relay and I hope that as many of you as possible will be able to make it to one of the many events being held across the North-east over the coming days to mark this special occasion.

Full details on the Baton Relay route can be found on the Glasgow 2014 website, and I also believe that some extra tickets have been made available if you too share my excitement for the Games and wish to make a last minute attempt to watch the action unfold.
