Aberdeenshire Provost, Cllr Hamish Vernal, led a tribute for Workers’ Memorial Day at the full meeting of Aberdeenshire Council on Thursday.
Provost Vernal said: “Commemorating Workers’ Memorial Day can be an important part of promoting safety and honoring those who have given their lives to the job.
“Our staff go to work and expect to return home safe and well each day.
“We all have a responsibility to ensure this happens, that we positively promote safe working conditions and highlight areas where improvements can be made.”
At the same meeting, Cllr Alison Evison put forward a notice of motion, seconded by Cllr Ross Cassie, stating: “Aberdeenshire Council fully supports the CoSLA Manifesto for a Stronger Scottish Democracy and asks the Co-Leaders to write to the incoming Scottish Government spokesperson on local government to confirm this.”
An amendment by Cllr Jim Gifford, was accepted and the council agreed to support the CoSLA manifesto and reflect the importance of local decision making and the need to take forward the CoSLA principles in the true spirit of partnership.
