Porty Men’s Shed taking shape - but help is needed

Portlethen’s Men’s Shed is getting closer to a reality, with the group having registered as a charity, drafted a constitution and secured funding.

Community councillor Alex McKay, who has been heavily involved in the project, said: “The building we have in mind is the former toilet block which is next to the Lethan Arms.

‘‘It’s a great site, very central, and there is parking available. We wish it could be bigger but who knows,we be able to build something bigger in the future.

“We have put in place a planning application to do the necessary works to the building and for a caravan to be parked at the rear.”

The group are now at the stage where they are working with Aberdeenshire Council to secure permission to move things forward.

Alex explained: “Our next stage is to write a business plan, which most of us have never done before, and we need people who would like the challenge of fund raising or fitting out the caravan that we have obtained.”

If you think you could help, please contact Alex ( Roy ) McKay on 01224 781006 or email mckay.roy71@gmail.com.

Next meeting is on Friday October 24 at 11am in the library, Portlethen Academy.
