PUPILS from Arduthie and Mill of Forest primary schools took part in the MRI activity day last Wednesday.

FOR the last two weeks P7 pupils from all of the Mackie Academy feeder schools have had the opportunity to take part in activity days at the MRI at Stonehaven harbour.

The activity days, which saw pupils working in teams with pupils from other primaries, are designed to introduce pupils from the feeder schools to one another before they make the move up to Mackie Academy.

S6 Mackie pupils are also involved in leading the teams and getting to know the younger students before they make the transition to secondary school.

Educations and youth development officer Susan Wood explained: “It’s a team building exercise to get pupils from different schools to mix. The S6 pupils get involved so that when the pupils move up to S1 they will be able to find a recognisable face and someone to approach if they don’t want to approach an adult.

“The S6 pupils invovled are a fabulous representation of the school, they have been very friendly and encouraging.”

She added: “The feedback from these activity days has been fantastic. The kids absolutely adore it and it helps to introduce them to pupils from other schools. This is especially important for the smaller schools where sometimes only two or three P7 pupils are going up to Mackie.”

The pupils also recently spent the day at Mackie, where they took part in activities before attending a question and answer question with S1 and S6 pupils about what they can expect when they start secondary school.
