S5 marks increase on last year

Thousands of pupils across Aberdeenshire got their exam results this week with a 5% increase in S5 pupils getting three Highers or more.

Over 6,000 students took exams in over 60 subjects, while just under 4,000 students sat National 5 qualifications in 39 subjects ranging from English and Maths to Practical Cake Craft and Philosophy.

Chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Education, Learning and Leisure Committee Councillor Alison Evison said: “I congratulate everyone who is receiving their exam results and who will now be thinking ahead to the future as this marks a journey towards further or higher education and employment opportunities.

The percentage of S4 pupils who were awarded five or more National 5 qualifications in 2014 was 44% and in 2015 rose to 45%. S5 pupils who were awarded three or more Higher qualifications in one sitting was 33% in 2014 and this year was 38%. S6 pupils who achieved five or more Higher qualifications by the end of S6 was 25% in 2014 and this year was 27%. The figure for S5 pupils who attained five Higher qualifications and passed at grade A in one sitting this year was 94 compared to 81 in 2014.
