A very special Santa dropped by the office of social care charity, Cornerstone, last week to pick up hundreds

of gifts.

They were given to those less fortunate before Christmas as part of the Giving Tree Scheme.

Callum, who lives at Cornerstone’s Angus Court service in Portlethen, was decked out as Santa when he visited staff at the charity’s Aberdeen HQ.

The Giving Tree initiative has seen a variety of organisations, including the NHS and local authorities as well as private companies, signing on to host a Giving Tree, from which employees picked a present tag and donated a gift of their choice to someone less advantaged.

The presents have come in all shapes and sizes, from puzzles, LEGO and DVDs to Disney toys, sensory toys and sports kits, with more than 1000 donations worth over £13,000.

Cornerstone provides care and support services for more than 2200 adults, young people and children across Scotland who live with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health problems and other support needs.

Around 22 companies from across Scotland signed up to the Giving Tree and Cornerstone has thanked those who took part and helped ensure everyone they support can enjoy a little bit of magic this Christmas.

Cornerstone’s fundraising manager, Barbara Boertien, said: “For many of us, spending time with our friends and family, having fun and exchanging gifts at Christmas time is something we all look forward to.

“However, for people with disabilities, Christmas can often be a difficult and emotional time. Receiving a special gift, picked out by you, can help make their Christmas truly magical.”

Among the companies which took part was Fugro Survey Limited.

Commercial assistant Abbie Fleming said: “This is the first year Fugro Survey Limited have supported Cornerstone in their Giving Tree appeal and what an amazing response we have had within the company. We decided to help Cornerstone with their Giving Tree to make someone’s Christmas that extra bit special.

‘‘Christmas can be a difficult time for many, so the more happiness we can bring to those in need, the better.”
