A Stonehaven primary school was reopened on Monday after flooding damage caused it to close to pupils last week.

A Spokesperson for Aberdeenshire Council said last Friday that work will continue to determine the cause of the problem.

They said: “First thing on Thursday morning (October 3), staff arrived at Mill O’Forest School to discover severe water ingress in the infant area of the school which has caused extensive damage to the ceilings, internal fabric, equipment and resources.

“The affected classes were dispersed to other areas around the school and the Property Service came in to undertake investigations.

“It was decided that the school would be closed to all pupils to allow survey work to be undertaken.”

The school was reopened on Monday morning upon being declared safe, but further investigation is expected.

The statement added: “The other areas of the building have been surveyed and declared safe for use.

“The school will therefore re-open to all pupils on Monday with the infant classes being dispersed to other areas around the school and this arrangement will continue for the course the week until the school breaks up for the October holiday next Friday.

“Parents have been advised of the situation. Work is continuing to identify the cause of the problem and the remedial action that is required to resolve it.”
