A Stonehaven sandwich shop has been named Scotland’s Best Takeaway, after winners were announced at a ceremony in Edinburgh last weekend.

The Deli Lunch Sandwich Shop was given the prestigious title at Scotland’s Business Awards, after winning their Regional place back in May. They were then entered into the national final and came out on top, and now have their awards proudly displayed in their Barclay Street premises.

The shop, which has been in business for 15 years, beat off stiff competition from takeaways in Angus, Edinburgh and Lothian and Glasgow to take the top spot, and staff member Dot Morrison said they couldn’t be more delighted with the accolade, which was voted for by customers.

She said: “We are absolutely over the moon, we are so chuffed.

“We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who voted for us, and also to all of the staff who have been with us throughout the years.

“We have a lot of loyal customers and we couldn’t have done it without them.”

Businesses are entered into the race for an award when they are nominated, and Dot said that they don’t know who they have to thank for the nomination as it was done anonymously.

Over a number of months, customers can then vote for their favourite business, and mystery shoppers are sent to put them to the test. It is a combination of the mystery shopper reports and the online votes which decide the winner.
