Stonehaven’s ‘Open Air in the Square’ Hogmanay party is ‘alive and kicking,’ but now the race is on to secure sponsorship for the event.
Despite the event being a sell-out, the organisers are frantically trying to make up for lost time after delays caused by uncertainty over police objections.
The dedicated group of volunteers are fighting against the clock to raise the extra expenditure needed to meet the huge overheads involved in staging a world-class live event.
Hefty bills have already been incurred commissioning experts in the fields of crowd control and safety to meet the police demands.
Extra money is also needed for production costs, support acts, top class security, stewarding, accommodation and insurance.
And today (Thursday)sponsorship co-ordinator, Lindsay Verstralen, asked the Mearns Leader to help launch an appeal for sponsorship from the area’s business community.
She said they were delighted with the unanimous backing of councillors on the Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee last week.
But she added: “We would really like to have a major sponsor from the North-east but any contributions would be very welcome.
‘‘ The event has already attracted global attention and sponsorship would provide a valuable platform for companies to share the limelight with us.”
