Stonehaven & District Rotary Club

Speaker at last Wednesday’s lunchtime meeting of Stonehaven and District Rotary Club was Donald Anderson, a field researcher for the Scottish social research.

He gave an entertaining talk about a trip he had had to pay to Foula to conduct some research. Although it was all supposed to be confidential, it appears that on an island the size of Foula, everyone knows everything that is going on!

In Donald’s case, this included the reason he was there and the name of the person he was due to interview! He was invited to speak by Rotarian Bob Kennedy, who also proposed thanks.

Tomorrow (Friday), Stonehaven Rotary Club are once again running a round of the annual Rotary Primary School Quiz. This is open to primary seven pupils in teams of four, and nine of the 10 associated primary schools in Mackie Academy’s catchment area are taking part.

The quiz consists of 10 rounds of questions on a range of topics, and is conducted ”pub quiz style” with each team able to confer over their answers - there are no questions to individual team members (it does differ in one way from a “pub quiz” as there is no alcohol on offer!).

The winner of this round will progress to the area final and the winner of that will then go on to the district round which will be held in June at the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen. Last year the team from Arduthie Primary school reached the District final but they did not win, despite an excellent effort.
