A STONEHAVEN family have handed over a £1000 cheque to a cancer charity in memory of a greatly missed wife and mother.
Peter Newell, of Mearns Drive, and his two daughters Joanne and Milissa, presented the cheque earlier this week to Macmillan Cancer Support nurse Maggie McLellan and the charity’s fundraising manager Sheryl Wootton.
The money was raised at the Celebration of Life of his late wife Susan, who passed away a few weeks ago after a long and brave fight against cancer.
Mr Newell said it was decided by the family to request donations for Macmillan, as it was the charity’s nurses who supported Susan over the last 18 months of her life by providing counselling and support at what was a very difficult time.
He added: “It showed how loved Susan was by so many people in Stonehaven who attended her Celebration of Life and donated such a wonderful sum of money to help the Macmillan nurses to continue their valuable work.
“I would like to thank everyone for contributing to such a fitting legacy to Susan who is missed greatly by all her family and her many friends in the town.”
Fundraising manager Sheryl Wootton said: “I’d just like to thank Peter very much for the donation. There are around 110 Macmillan nurses in the north of Scotland so this contribution will help towards that, along with the Citizens’ Advice Bureau staff that we have.”
